ASA Collaborates with the New York Film Academy

We teamed up with the New York Film Academy to host an industry panel and networking event on July 12th, 2018 at the NYFA theater in Burbank. The ASA knows how important is the filmmaker collaboration is to our community, so we wanted to create an event that brought filmmakers and composers together in the same room. We conceived a panel that allowed both composers and filmmakers to break down their creative workflows for each other. Composers learned about filmmaking, and filmmakers learned about composing!

The panel was moderated by ASA board member and composer Carrin Tanaka. It featured NYFA faculty members Kim Ogletree, David Martin PorrasArt Helterbran, and composer Deborah Lurie, Miriam Mayer and ASA board member Craig Marks. We discussed a wide range of topics including how filmmakers pick their composer, how they can communicate musical ideas without the correct terminology, and the different roles within a composing team. Head over to our library page to watch some highlight videos!

Afterward, NYFA hosted a networking reception with drinks and pizza. Attendees had the chance to casually showcase their work for each other on screens provided by the school.

This popular event sold out in under a day! We are definitely working on creating similar events.
