SUMMARY:Adventures in Listening: Animation Music with Special Guest Bob’s Burgers music director Patrick Dacey
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Zoom on August 29th at 10am PDT for Adventures in Listening! We’ll be listening to music by YOU and giving constructive feedback as a group. Patrick Dacey\, music director for the acclaimed animated sitcom Bob’s Burgers\, will be joining the conversation and leading the feedback session. As in previous sessions\, we’ll keep the tracks anonymous\, so you don’t need to take credit (or blame!) if you choose not to. This is a casual event for all levels and a great way to get more ears on your music! The discussion can range from orchestration to production and  everything in between. \nHere’s the prompt: \nAnimated\, Character-Driven Comedy: Submit a cue for a character-driven\, animated sitcom. Blend traditional scoring orchestration with timbral elements that create a unique musical identity.\nSubmit a cue for any of the following set pieces:\n– montage of characters accomplishing a goal\n– dramatic confrontation between characters wherein our main character has a realization\n– call to action speech\n– bittersweet confession \nAll ASA members are invited to submit their track via the Google form. We cannot guarantee that everyone’s track will be played during the event and priority will be given to Philharmonic and Orchestra members. Since 2017 he has been with Bento Box Entertainment\, overseeing the music production and final mixing of Bob’s Burgers\, Central Park\, The Great North\, and The Bob’s Burgers Movie. Patrick has contributed to fulfilling the musical vision on a diverse range of character driven storytelling in television and film while overseeing teams of composers\, editors\, and coordinators whose accomplishments include everything from recording a 50 piece orchestra\, to producing well over 200 original songs\, to building custom instruments like a fry basket slide guitar. \n

SUMMARY:Beyond the Sample Library with Audio Modeling
DESCRIPTION:The Academy of Scoring Arts is proud to partner with Audio Modeling on a unique event exploring their virtual instruments. Audio Modeling’s classic SWAM engine models the physical behavior of acoustic instruments in real time\, so phrasing\, dynamics\, and articulation respond to the performance as it happens — no keyswitches or round-robin roulette. The team will demo their newest releases\, including PolySWAM — their first polyphonic instrument\, developed with Latin GRAMMY-winning producer Emanuele Ruffinengo — which extends that same responsiveness from solo lines to full ensembles for sketching and live performance. Expect a hands-on look at how the technology works\, where it fits in a scoring workflow\, and what physical modeling can do.  \nAfter the discussion\, we’ll be announcing the details of a composition contest in partnership with Audio Modeling. Anyone who enters will receive a temporary license covering the entire Audio Modeling suite: the SWAM Orchestra Bundle\, PolySWAM\, and AMBIENTE. SUMMARY:ASA Shared Sessions - String Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:We’re proud to announce our first-ever shared recording session – open to all members! On November 14th\, we’ll be at Hollywood Scoring with a 14-piece string ensemble – 4 violin I\, 4 violin II\, 3 violas\, 2 celli\, 1 double bass. Eight selected composers will have the chance to have their music reviewed\, played and recorded by a professional team. One of the goals of the ASA is to give composers the chance to work with live musicians and make recording opportunities more accessible\, so we’ll be partially subsidizing the cost of the session. \nThis opportunity goes beyond just studio time. Every participant gets a full review leading up to the session. On October 3rd\, we’ll be kicking off with an online Adventures in Listening demo derby- string writing edition! This online session is open to all and is a great way to get general feedback on your submission before the deadline. Once selected\, the participating composers will also be receiving individual feedback from Tim Davies\, with time to revise before hitting the podium. The goal is to have a session that runs smoothly and for eight composers to have a cue for their reel. \nWe highly encourage composers who have not had much recording experience to apply. Slots are limited and priority consideration will be given to Philharmonic and Orchestra members. If you’ve been thinking about upgrading your membership\, now is the time! We are expanding the benefits of our membership and shared sessions will be a regular offering. \n  \nSUBMISSIONS WILL BE OPEN FROM OCT. 4 – 9th!  LINK WILL BE AVAILABLE on this page. \nPlease make sure you’re signed up for membership.
