Study James Horner’s Apollo 13 with Orchestrator Steve Bramson

June 20, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

After a short Covid hiatus, the ASA is back to launch its summer season, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Ron Howard’s inspiring docudrama Apollo 13. For the first time ever, we’ll set course towards James Horner, who delivered a noble and regal score, unique in its simplicity and originality, and elevated the picture to its place in history. We’ve selected six cues from the movie and we’ll take apart Horner’s work to find out exactly how it was put together.

Along with our ASA study panel, our special guest will be Steve Bramson, who was Horner’s orchestrator on this film. Steve will contribute his insights on the score as well as the process of working alongside Horner to deliver and prepare the score that millions have enjoyed.

As we continue to navigate Covid season, this study will take place online only, and is entirely free to Chamber, Orchestra, and Philharmonic members of the ASA. We’ll be broadcasting live via Zoom on Saturday, June 20, from 10am-12pm Pacific Time.
