Join us on May 17th at LAPR for a rare event with renowned studio percussionist Alex Acuña, a musician whose artistry has graced some of the most iconic recordings and film scores in history.

In this intimate evening, Alex will share his insights on the composer-performer collaboration — how to communicate effectively to get the sound you’re hearing in your head and to facilitate the musician’s own creativity and contributions. Alex will also perform a live rescore of select works from his film career, offering a rare window into the creative process in real time.

Select participants will have the chance to join Alex at the instruments, recording new sounds and experiencing firsthand what it means to create with one of the world’s most recorded percussionists. LAPR will have an array of instruments available to build unique sound and rhythmic palettes, including djembes, ewe drums, talking drums, djuns, balafons, mbiras and more. 

Whether you’re a seasoned composer or just beginning your journey, this is a chance to learn, listen, and be inspired.
