John Williams’s Superman Suite Part 1

Featuring: Reuven Herman, David Das, and Josh Lucan

In this online event, we begin our study of the Superman Suite. John Williams wrote this score for the first Superman movie (1978), which was in close proximity to the first Star Wars (1977), and although the two scores share some common characteristics, they are equally fascinating for how they diverge. The orchestral writing is masterful in each, but heads in a different direction: strong and heroic for Superman, and science fiction for Star Wars. This study is led by ASA President David Das, Vice-President Reuven Herman, and Board Member Josh Lucan.
