Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Episode 1

We close out our 2017 season with this holiday edition of our LA Ravel! We journey through the whimsical melodies of Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballet and perennial holiday favorite, The Nutcracker Suite, with special guest, orchestrator and guitarist Carl Rydlund (Disney, Remote Control, Sony, Dreamworks). There’s a lot to learn from Tchaikovsky’s masterful melody writing, orchestration and musical story telling! This study is co-hosted by ASA President David Das and Vice-President Reuven Herman.

About Carl Rydlund

After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition from the University of Colorado, Carl moved to Los Angeles to study at the legendary Grove School of Music. Upon completing a two-year program in arranging and film composition, Carl started performing for record, TV, and film dates on guitar. The next ten years also included work as an arranger and as a copyist at Joann Kane Music and Disney. Since then, he has focused on film and live orchestral work as an arranger/orchestrator, conductor, and guitarist. His wide and varied experience has made him one of the most sought-after orchestrators and studio musicians in Los Angeles.

Among the many films and games Carl has orchestrated, conducted, and played guitar on over the years are: Dunkirk, Destiny 2, Halo Wars 2, Star Wars Battlefront II, Interstellar, Assassin’s Creed III, Life of Pi, Jack Reacher, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Fifty First Dates, and Chocolat.
